Questions for Cllrs @_petermason, @DrAyshaRaza, @jkblacker, @JasbirAnand2 and @kamnagpal on tackling inequalities, healthy lives, thriving communities, a fairer start, specifically in reference to the ongoing air pollution and odour nuisance from the old Southall Gasworks site.
1) Why was there no Equalities Impact Assessment, taking into account the local area's existing economic and health inequalities?
2) Why weren't local residents informed about the risks (including potentially fatal genetic vulnerability of some Asian and Black people to naphthalene poisoning) beforehand?
3) If there are no or minimal risks to physical health as Public Health England claim in their risk assessments, why is independent air quality monitoring being commissioned now, nearly five years after earthworks began?
4) If Berkeley/Atkins/Blackwell's data is trustworthy, as Ealing Council has always claimed, why spend £200,000 on independent air quality monitoring now?
5) If there's nothing to worry about, why do Berkeley Group want to install an air quality monitor close to FM Conway's nearby asphalt plant?
6) Blair Peach Primary School's HT reported 'very strong smells' from the gasworks caused 'headaches and asthma'.
Children's lungs may never recover and result in early death.
How is this a fairer start for Southall's mainly brown and black young people?
7) Do #SouthallLivesMatter?
