Is anyone interested in seeing a selection of leaked WhatsApp group messages from some Ealing Labour councillors?
An inside look at what they really think about Bell, Mason, Sharma?
The institutional bullying and corruption they kept quiet for years?
#EalingLabourLeaks
A couple things before I get started.
My source has obviously said that it's ok to publish these.
I've edited the screenshots to remove some names. I don't want to embarrass people unnecessarily, or make them feel like they are being attacked.
Focus is on Labour leadership.
Also going to take it slow, so maybe more of a drip, drip drip than a full on Wikileaks style dump.
These are from unofficial Ealing Labour councilllor group chats from the time of current leader Mason's failed coup attempt in 2020, to his successful second attempt in 2021.
A little background.
In 2020, then Ealing Labour Leader Julian Bell said he wanted to take advantage of covid to get £1m of funding to make LTNs permanent.
More details here: dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8…
Unfortunately for Liar Bell (and Mik Sabiers, who we’ll come back to), he told councillors the London Ambulance Service were consulted about LTNs.
It obviously didn’t go down well when it was discovered that wasn’t true.
From the Labour councillors' WhatsApp group chat:
This all led quickly on to a vote of no confidence in Bell, instigated by Bell’s trusted sidekick and mentee Peter Mason.
From the WhatsApp chat (LG = Labour Group of councillors, PM = Peter Mason):
Counting isn’t one of Mason’s strong points, however, and Bell survived by one vote (neighbournet.com/server/common/…).
Discussion of Labour Group Annual General Meeting (AGM) to follow, and Bell’s ‘bribes’.
And the fall out from the vote. The potential positives, and the likely winners and losers in a divided party.
Ealing Labour councillors discussing the aftermath of Bell winning the vote of no confidence and planning for their futures.
Peyer Mason practiced his counting ready for the party AGM and another stab at ousting his Ealing mentor of ten years.
Bell rewarded Southall councillors (including Mason) with cabinet posts and the additional allowances that come with them.
I wonder what else ‘all kinds of rewards’ entails?
Anyway, it was time for the Ealing Labour AGM in May 2021.
Just to recap on how we got here. Bell’s autocratic and failing leadership. And some high level debate about who is worse, Bell or Mason.
Not sure what the leaks referred to are? Anyone know?
One councillor was particularly scathing about then leader Julian Bell’s exclusivity, lack of accountability, corruption and even theft!
The councillor makes the case for Peter Mason being a better alternative than Bell (a low bar, admittedly).
Mason transformed Ealing Labour when he joined in 2009. (Anyone who believes Mason offers anything new is very sadly mistaken. He was practically running the show!)
For all the ‘good’ Peter Mason did in transforming Ealing Labour since 2009, he has his very serious flaws!
Peter Mason is callous, ruthless, sectarian.
This is from one of his own Labour councillors, rewarded with a place in his cabinet!
So this was the choice many Labour councillors felt they were faced with when voting for their leader (and ours) last May.
Corrupt, incompetent liar Bell vs. callous, ruthless, sectarian Mason.
They chose the latter, some feathering their own nests in the process.
Thanks to everyone who’s following, commenting and retweeting this #EalingLabourLeaks thread.
To finish off, here’s how one of the #LabourFamily of councillors describes our MP Virendra Sharma.
And just to finish off, back to Cllr Mik Sabiers (Bell’s assistant liar in the LTN fiasco), who isn’t standing in the May elections because he isn’t eligible.
The question is, was he eligible in 2018?
H/t @EalingIndys
The same councillor described both Bell and Peter Mason as morally objectionable.
A round-up of some of Peter Mason’s morally objectionable public posturings.
